John was the son of Alexander William "Elix" Taylor and Melvinia Lavinia "Viney" Hopkins. Viney was the daughter of Isaac Hopkins and Nancy Ann Pew. Viney married Alexander William "Elix" Taylor, 1862 in Kentucky. But their is no officail record of the marriage so the children used the Hopkins name. Alexander was the son of Cornelius Alexander Taylor and Sarah Ann Sally Walker. Alex married first Melvinia Lavinia "Viney" Hopkins, in 1862 but there is no record of the marriage. They had 6 children that I know of who went by the Hopkins name. Second he married Amelia Permila Hubbard-Gambrel, 11 Aug 1885 in Knox Co KY.
