Interesting Note for the 1940 US Federal Census

There is another Floyd Wagers living next door to Floyd and Sarah Wagers.

Also interesting was that Sarah’s mother, Sallie Smith makes the most income $320.00 in 1939 with her sewing.

Floyd H. Wagers age 25 has wife named Georgia Wagers age 23 and son Ralph age 2 and daughter Enaline age 7 months.  Floyd H. rented his home with monthly rent of $2.00 and his family did not live on a farm. It is my guess that Floyd H. Wagers must be relative.  Floyd H. was labor on road construction and his yearly wages for 1939 was $208.00.

Also down the road from Floyd and Sarah Wagers is Sarah’s parents, George B. age 65 and Sallie Smith age 57.  George B. owned his home with value of $100.00 and he lived on a farm. Sallie did sewing and her yearly wages for 1939 was $320.00.

Also down the road from Floyd and Sarah Wagers is Sarah’s brothers, Leonard Smith and Taylor Smith.

Leonard Smith age 38 and his wife, Rosa A. Smith age 39, with their children James age 18, Shirley age 17, Lula age 15, Henry age 12, Ernest age 9, Edith age 6, Mae age 4.  Leonard owned his home and value of his home was $50.00 and his family did not live on a farm. Leonard was miner who loaded coal and his yearly wages for 1939 was $150.00. Shirley was also miner who loaded coal and his yearly wages for 1939 was $25.00

Taylor Smith, age 35 and his wife, Cassie Smith age 26 and their daughter, Leaner age 4.  Taylor rented his home with month rent of $1.00 and his family did not live on a farm. Taylor was minor who loaded coal and his yearly wages for 1939 was $225.00.

Theo Smith, Edward Smith, Tensley Smith,  and Tale Smith are all sons of Carter and Mary Jane Smith. Interesting note: Elijah Wagers in the 1940 U.S. Federal Census will be married to their younger sister, Helen Smith.

Theo Smith age 38 and his wife Rula Smith age 42. Theo owned his home and value of his home was $150.00 and his family lived on a farm. Theo used pick and shovel in the road construction industry and his yearly wages for 1939 was$142.50.

Ed Smith age 32 and his wife Pearlie Smith age 34 and their children Irma J. age 5, Georgia M. age 3 and Nellie age 2 months.  Ed owned his home and value of his home was $150.00 and his family lived on a farm.  He used pick and shovel in the road construction industry and his yearly wages for 1939 was $48.00.

Tensley D. Smith, age 28 and his wife Jamima Smith age 27 and their children Virgil age 5, Green age 3, Golden age 2, Chester age 8 months and Tensley’s brother, Tale Smith age 30 and single. Tensley rented his home with monthly rent of $1.00 and his family did not live on a farm.  Tensley used pick and shovel in the road construction industry and his yearly wages for 1939 was $139.00.  Tale was farmer and made no income in 1939.  Tensley and Tale are sons of Carter and Mary Jane Smith.  Might be Sarah (Smith) Wagers cousins.
